BENALMADENA
ANDALUCIA
Situated between two seas and two continents, Andalucia is the largest of Spain´s natural regions and the one with the highest population. The region is widely and richly varied, including the Sierra Morena, the Guadalquivir Valley and the Betica Ranges. The climate, as varied as its geographical features, is Mediterranean, with mild winters and dry summers:
The millenarian history of Andalusia has produced an inmense artistic legacy. The Alhambra in Granada, the Mosque in Cordoba of the Giralda and the historic quarter of Seville are Humanitys monumental landmarks. However in the vast majority of its cities and towns we can find representations of the finest moments of the Andalusian artistic life throughout time.
The brilliant Islamic, renaissance and especially the baroque architecture of its most important buildings, castles, fortresses and monasteries spread over its surface, compose an enormous, transcendental patrimony.
Malaga is the smallest of the Andalusian provinces with approx. 600.000 inhabitants. It has a privileged place at the mouth of the Guadalmedina river, on the Mediterranean coast.
Benalmadena is an attractive coastal town of the Costa del Sol ( approx 30.000 inhabitants ) which sits on a hill at the foot of the Mijas mountains range, only 18 kms. from Malaga city and 8 kms. from Málaga International airport, which is within 3 hours flying time from most european capitals.
Originally a sleepy Andalusian fishing village with beautiful white washed houses, Benalmádena has developed into a lively and animated town which retains its old charm and character.
The town is small enough to provide a peaceful and secure environment, while large enough to offer good shops, hotels and restaurants, a large park, a modern sports centre,
Benalmadena offers a wide range of amenities for all ages, such as, an amusement park, a water park,
an outdoor cinema, a shopping centre, cinemas, a casino, 18 hole golf greens and the popular Puerto Marina de Benalmadena, with 978 mooring slips, a sailing school, an aquarium, a diving school, that has become one of the favorite meeting places for young people for its dazzling nightlife.
The geographical situation of Benalmadena enables the students to organize cultural excursions to the most important cities of Andalucia and to Morocco, only a short one hour ferry trip.
